4 of the Most Common Reasons for Divorce

February 28, 2024

In today's romance-obsessed world, many people hope to one day get married. According to Statista, in 2021 alone, there were 61.45 million married people in the United States. Unfortunately, some marriages don't last. There are a few different reasons that people get divorced in today's society, making it necessary to hire a divorce attorney.

1. Decrease in Love and Intimacy

A little loss of intimacy is understandable after marriage because this often fades with time. However, a married couple still needs to show love, affection, and intimacy at times. Often, many people end marriages that lose that magic touch because they meet someone else who ignites their passions. There's no shame in it as long as you do things properly.

2. Loss of Trust

Many married couples get together after infidelity and work things out. However, others can't do that and must call a divorce attorney to get help. That said, cheating is just one reason why couples lose trust. For example, one partner might keep money secret from the other or keep other things hidden from them. When those things get out in the open, a divorce might be inevitable.

3. Difficulty in Communication

Do you and your partner struggle to talk about important topics like money and disciplining your children? That's common and not necessarily a sign that a divorce is coming up soon. However, if you simply struggle to chat about the weather, work, and even chores, you might be in a bad situation. A lack of interest or inability to talk is one of the biggest killers of otherwise promising marriages.

4. Lack of Shared Interests

When you first got together with your spouse, you likely did everything together and loved the same movies and activities. With time, people change. Maybe you no longer like going to the same restaurants or have very different tastes in TV shows. Or, perhaps you've lost interest in board games or video games, and they're still into them. Whatever the case, a lack of shared interests is a real issue.
